Loneliness Awareness Week Australia

Loneliness is highly prevalent, yet widely misunderstood in Australia.

Loneliness Awareness Week, held annually in the first week of August, is Australia’s national campaign shining a spotlight on the shared experience of loneliness and calling on all Australians, including individuals, communities, workplaces, education, and government, to take action to reduce loneliness and create more opportunities for meaningful social connections.

2026 Theme: Make Room for Connection

This year’s theme, Make Room for Connection, celebrates the everyday ways people living in Australia are making room for connection and shines a spotlight on those who are, or want to be, connectors in their communities, workplaces, schools and neighbourhoods.

People with lived experience of loneliness tell us finding connection is difficult. With your help we’re taking the onus off people feeling lonely and making opportunities for connection more visible and accessible.

About Ending Loneliness Together

Ending Loneliness Together was founded in 2016 by a collaboration of established leaders and experts in the field of loneliness, with a vision to create an Australia where everyone feels a sense of connection and belonging.

Now a national peak body underpinned by lived experience, research, community, government and health expertise, Ending Loneliness Together brings people and organisations together to drive and coordinate Australia’s response to loneliness.
